RIMAS GEDEIKA, NJ
I was born in Kaunas in 1941. With my family I
immigrated to USA in 1950. During my high school and college days, I participated in
several Lithuanian student organizations - Ateitininkai, Lithuanian Catholic Student
Association and the Lithuanian Student Organization. In both organizations held various
leadership positions at the local and national levels. Served in the US Army. Discharged
with a rank of Captain. During the past 17 years lived in New Jersey and a member of the
LAC. I always had deep passion for sports. Actively involved in enabling the Lithuanian
marathon athletes to partake in the 1996 Olympics. Currently president of ARAS Sports Club
and chairman of the sports and youth activities Committee in Philly's LAC. Why seeking a
seat in the TARYBA--- I am fervently convinced that the best way to maintain our
Lithuanian culture and to pass it onto our children is through sports. Sports overcome all
types of real and psychological barriers, they allow for friendships to develop; they open
doors to better communication and understanding of one another. TARYBA --should be
comprised of individuals having different orientations. Athletes should have a voice
within this group. I seek to be that voice.
